Located in the city’s Gracia neighbourhood, this modernist gem was designed by renowned Catalan architect Josep Puig i Cadafalch at the beginning of the 20th century.
Built from 1905-1909, Terradas House is one of Puig i Cadafalch’s most famous works and a prime example of his Modernista style. The building features Art Nouveau elements such as curved lines and floral motifs, which were inspired by Gothic architecture and oriental designs. Its façade is made up of brickwork with colorful ceramic tiles depicting scenes from nature like flowers and birds – all painstakingly crafted by master ceramists Rafael Maso y Mestres and Lluís Bru who worked on many other projects with Puig i Cadafalch during that period.
The interior design follows suit with its ornate details like stained-glass windows, intricate wood panelling and wrought iron railings throughout each room – making it a must-see destination for anyone interested in exploring Catalonia’s unique brand of art nouveau architecture. Visitors can also take advantage of guided tours offered by Casa de les Punxes (the house next door) which provide more insight into both buildings’ history and their place within Barcelona’s cultural landscape.
